Alina Biermann, Head of Decarbonization at carbon management solution carbmee, outlines how utilising automated technology can assist in getting your businesses carbon reduction under control.
Alina, who are carbmee?
We are a holistic carbon management solution, on a mission to empower companies and institutions to get carbon reduction under management through the use of automation technology. Our AI-driven technology, combined with LCA precision methodology, enables enterprises to identify their emissions hotspots so that they can make more impactful reduction decisions in days, not years.
What issue does your solution solve?
Generally speaking, we help large enterprises tackle the climate crisis. More specifically, we enable sustainable transformation of businesses with environmental intelligence in order to achieve net-zero by 2050. We automatically calculate corporate, product and supply chain carbon footprints across scopes 1, 2, and 3.
Who is your solution aimed at? What does your perfect client look like?
We address all companies that work with tangible goods, particularly those with complex supply chains across industries like automotive, process manufacturing, FMCG, and others. As the climate crisis is a global problem, we work with companies all around the world. We are most often speaking with the C-Suite (mostly CFOs, but also CEOs and COOs), Supply Chain or Procurement Directors, and the Director of Sustainability.
What is the biggest challenge carbmee faces?
The industry is still quite new, and many people are unaware that such solutions exist. Tackling the net-zero challenge is a complicated endeavour, and many companies do not know where to start. Also, particularly for those who are just getting started, the urgency of the problem is not fully recognized, so a solution such as ours is perceived as optional rather than a business lever for competitive advantage and cost saving.
Why pick carbmee?
- Supplier-specific calculation approach based on our customers’ real transactions to identify reduction potentials, provide granularity into emissions, and monitor progress against reduction targets and international standards (GHG Protocol, SBTi, etc.).
- “Scope 3 first” approach. Able to calculate and cover all three scopes & all Scope 3 categories, but able to drill down on especially Scope 3.1, 3.4 & 3.11, which make up the majority of emissions in scope 3 in manufacturing companies.
- Deployment velocity & automation: Able to deliver results in 2 weeks; No need to hire in-house LCA experts.
- Holistic: Integration of corporate, product and supply chain carbon footprints into overall sustainability decision-making (ERP System for Carbon Management).
